This guide will show you how to do it:

1. If the person you want to make an admin is not yet a fan of your page, ask him to push the Like button and become one of them. You need this in order to give him the admin status.

2. On the left side of your Facebook page, right below the quantity of fans, click on the link that says “like this.”

3. Once you have done this, you will be looking at the complete list of fans of your page. On the right side of each row, you will see a button that says “Make Admin.” Look for the row of the person you want to make an admin and click on its corresponding button. Facebook will ask you to confirm this action. Since you are the creator of the page, you will be able to remove this new admin later, any time you want to.

To add many people, just repeat this procedure with each one of them. This way you will no longer be a lonely administrator.

There are a few things that a technical person such as myself can determine just looking at a web site through a normal internet browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox.

The first thing I do when I am consulting someone is load up the web site in question click on View then Source. Viewing source on web sites and copying code is the equivalent of web designer college.

This shows the source code of the web site, the HTML that decides what the web site looks like and also what this web site is “about” with a title tag, meta keywords and meta description. This is how Google knows your insurance web site is about insurance and not about kittens or football.

To see if you are telling the Internet the correct things about your web site, load up Internet Explorer or any browser and click View then Source. You don’t have to read all of it, the meta data is in the first 5-10 lines of the source. If you don’t see anything then you probably need to talk to a new company to handle your Internet precense.

Here are some screenshots to show what I’m talking about. I always use cnn.com as a example of someone who is doing it right and another random web site that doesn’t have any meta data as a example of zero efforts.

It takes probably 10-15 seconds of time to add a title, keywords and a description to a web site and if yours doesn’t have them then e-mail your web designer immediately since you are basically invisible to search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Failing:

Winning:

What is Google Apps?

Google Apps is a Web based e-mail, calendar, and document management system. Many companies and organizations use Google Apps as their e-mail solution because of the large storage space, spam protection and ability to login from anywhere with a Internet connection. Google Apps uses the standard gmail.com interface which you already may know and love but utilizes your domain name(yourname.com) instead of gmail.com. Google Apps was developed as a replacement for the costly and clumsy Microsoft Exchange. Google Apps is considered a cloud application with no need for a in house server to maintain, backup and administrate.

There are many other features of Google Apps which you or your administrator can choose to turn on, such as chat system for everyone on your domain name, a integrated to do list, and many other features which are added regularly. Google Apps Standard is currently free and gives you 50 users, unlimited e-mail groups(e-mail forwards or aliases) and 7 gigs of storage space. There is a Premier edition available which allows for more users, more storage space, no advertisements and the ability to use Google’s API system which gives you even more capabilities. The current price for Google Apps Premier is $50 year per user. So if you had 5 users it would cost you $250.00 a year.

Google Mail

Obviously the most used Google App, utilizes the same interface as gmail.com and gives you all the benefits of the Postini spam filter, the ability to automatically apply labels(similar to Outlook’s folders) to e-mails, a filtering ability to automatically forward a e-mail, send a canned response or have certain e-mails skip the inbox all together archiving it. Archiving takes all of the e-mails in your inbox and stores them out of sight but easily accessible by searching or clicking on a label.
Google Mail grows with features regularly so it would be impossible to list all of the features and abilities. You are able to add certain features from Google Labs, features developed by Google employees but not yet integrated automatically.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar is the Web based calendar system that comes with Google Apps. Google Calendar allows you to create multiple calendars viewable at once with the ability to share these calendars with other Google Apps and Google users. Depending on the permissions you set, those users can view your calendar, add events, restrict the even to “busy” hiding the details of the event, or even publish the calendar publically on your web site.
Google Calendar like every Google App of course is searchable which helps to remember times and dates of meetings and such. It has several different views, such as day, week and month as well as a agenda view.

Google Docs

Google Docs is the document management system that comes with Google Apps. Google Docs is designed to replace Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as the ability to create Google Forms. The best way to describe why Google Docs is great is to use this analogy. Lets say we are working on a proposal in Word, a budget in Excel and a presentation in PowerPoint. Before you would compose these on one computer and then e-mail them to someone you wanted to collaborate with. They would then make changes and send it back to you and if there is a 3rd person involved then there are 3 copies. With Google Docs, you simply share documents with other users and grant them permission to edit or view. If multiple people are working on a document at once you a handy chat window pops in the browser to allow you to communicate with them in real time.

Once a document is finalized, you can then export it as a Word document, PDF and any other format you need. You also have the ability to e-mail the document as a attachment so the recipient would even know that the document was created with Google Docs. Like all Google Apps you can quickly search for a document as well as create folders and sub folders to allow for your own personalized organization.

Google Sites

Google Sites allows you to build Web sites utilizing their WYSWIG web site builder. It’s mostly commonly used for Intranet’s(internal company web sites) which allow someone with no html knowledge to quickly and easily update the web site. The pages allow for commenting, uploading of documents and can help manage a large team.

Administrating your Google Apps Account

How Do I Login To Google Apps?

To sign into your account simply go to https://mail.domain.com where domain.com is your company or organizations domain name. Type this into the address field in any Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. Be careful to only enter the beginning part of your e-mail address since the domain name will already be displayed.

How Do I Create E-Mail Aliases For Users

Every user has a primary email address, which is the email address created when the user’s account was created and the address the user uses to log into Google Apps. Google Apps enables to you create additional email aliases for a user.

An email alias is an alternative email address that points to an existing user account. For example, the user bill@subsidiary.com might also want to receive email addressed to william@subsidiary.com. If you create william@subsidiary.com as an email alias for bill@subsidiary.com, Google Apps will deliver email for both of these addresses to the same Gmail inbox.

To set one up simply login to your mail account at http://mail.yourdomain.com substituting yourdomain.com for your domain.

Click on Manage This Domain in the top right corner

It will ask you to login again for security reasons.

Click on Organization & Users and then click on the user’s name you’d like to add a nickname to.

Click Add a nickname, enter in the beginning part of the e-mail address and click Save Changes.

This will instantly setup your nickname and you’ll now be able to receive e-mail at both these email addresses in the same inbox. You only get 1 nickname per e-mail address. You can make groups to have a e-mail address forward to multiple e-mail addresses.
Google Groups

Your general appearance
Appearance is everything. There is no denying it, especially in the business world. Whether you’ve been in business ten years and know more about your industry then anyone in a 100 mile area or if you are just starting out, it won’t matter if you are not presenting yourself properly. We help with that both online and offline because the two are tied together intimately.

Free e-mail addresses hurt, not help
When potential customers/investors see a Yahoo.com, Gmail.com, Cox.net, Bellsouth.net or any other free e-mail service it says quite a few things. Nothing is really wrong with any of these e-mail services but what it says stands out and says nothing but negativity.

It says you don’t care enough to setup a legit e-mail address and that this is a hobby or a side project that you haven’t had the time or resources to dedicate to registering a domain name and following through to configure proper e-mail addresses. It’s nothing personal against you, just how it looks to everyone and it’s a easy fix.

The worst is if your business is doing anything that utilizes technology, it instantly nullifies your knowledge since anyone involved in technology would not be using a free e-mail system and most would be weary of anyone who does.

These small details are what people notice when they are researching a company or organization to aid them. In this day in age of tight budgets these small details could be destroying potential on all kinds of levels.

Business cards are your foot in the door
All roads lead to Rome and all, if not most roads start with your business card. It really comes down to the fact that you are wasting time and energy by promoting yourself with sub standard marketing material that hurts rather then helps.

We help companies design and print business cards but at the end of the day we are a web site design, development and hosting company. Your Web property is a very key and crucial part to legitimizing your business but having your e-mail address @YourCompany.com is the crucial step after registering a domain name(YourName.com). We help on this aspect because you can have the coolest Web site in the world but people will look at you differently if you do not have a legitimate e-mail address for you and your employees. How many times have you received an e-mail from a vendor or potential customer and went to their Web site from the domain name off their e-mail address?

It’s a obvious choice
If your current web site company is helping you with basic things like this then it’s time to rethink your online partner. Not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend on a effective web presence but everyone doing business has enough of a budget to show their customers or potential customers they care enough to not run their business off a free e-mail service.

Don’t have a domain name? We’ll register one on your behalf.

Go to http://www.point2pointDomains.com and pick one out.

Not sure what’s the best domain to use? Give us a call and we’ll help, that’s part of what we do.

Already have your domain name? No problem, you can still use it.

Go to http://www.point2pointHosting.com and pick out our basic package

We’ll set you up and walk you through everything you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m scared, I like my (email system here) and I don’t want to change anything?
No problem. We can set it up to where the e-mail forwards to whatever e-mail address you want. The only thing is if you respond to the e-mail it’s going to come from where you respond from. IE: If you respond to e-mail sent to your work e-mail address info@YourCompany.com it’s going to come from your other e-mail address from aol, yahoo, or whatever provider you use.
The work around is to simply login to your work e-mail address and respond from that or configure your e-mail client to allow you to send from YourCompany.com.

You said you’ll use Google Apps which is Gmail.com for YourCompany.com, can I still use Outlook/iPhone/etc?
Yup, totally transparent. All e-mails will come from YourCompany.com and be completely transparent.

I don’t trust anyone wearing clothes that don’t match, I don’t want you to be in charge of my e-mail but I trust you enough to build my web site.
I’m not really in charge of it, I’m just helping you set it up with Google. They are going to actually host your e-mail, I simply help you use it.

I’m the biggest Google fan in the world but I’m writing about this because it confuses/frustrates me all the time. The Google Apps database is a entirely separate entity then the Google user database. So yourname@yourname.com e-mail address and password will not work when trying to do anything with Google that isn’t your Google Apps account.

The solution is to simply register your Google Apps e-mail with Google and use the same username and password. I completely understand why the two are desperate but it’s difficult to remember to change the password in both places.

When i refer to your Google account this is the e-mail address and password you’ll enter when you log into anything Google owns such as youtube and anything else they have acquired.
